Abstract:
The study aimed to monitor, analyze and interpret the trends of the media elite and their evaluation of the role of digital media towards issues of peaceful coexistence with refugees in Egypt, within the framework of what social media sites are witnessing in terms of campaigns to spread hashtags demanding the departure of refugees, and other hashtags calling for boycotting their commercial activities and stopping dealing with them, by standing on the opinions of the media elite regarding the refugee file, which has become very sensitive in terms of the media spreading the mechanisms of tolerance and its limits, and reducing the anonymous media campaigns that call for removing the values of societal tolerance through in-depth interviews with the Egyptian media elite.
This study belongs to descriptive studies and relied on the sample survey method, and the audience survey was employed in the study by obtaining data, information and opinions from a sample of Egyptian experts in the field of media regarding the issue under study, and their number reached (10) individuals belonging to (the academic elite and the professional elite). The researcher relied on the in-depth interview tool, which is an unstructured interview that adopts the method the escalation in asking questions to reach an assessment of the situation in a way that ensures informational richness that is not restricted by the limits of the questions.
The most important results reached by the study: The study sample from the elite confirmed the danger of the spread of discourse that incites the removal of values of tolerance in Egyptian society, especially towards refugees regardless of the reason for asylum or arrivals to Egypt, and the reference to the need to raise awareness of the reasons for asylum and differentiate between the reasons for the presence of foreigners to limit tendencies that may lead to future violence, as well as the emphasis on the economic benefits and international support that is equivalent to receive those who have the right to asylum, the necessity of tracking any hashtag that incites against others and calls for the removal of values of tolerance from Egyptian society, especially on social media sites, activating the role of religious institutions and their media channels in order to promote values of tolerance with others, and increasing official responsible media activity on social media sites that promotes acceptance of others regardless of their status, while emphasizing the effective role of the government in obligating refugees to the laws regulating their presence and ensuring the rights of citizens in confronting arrivals.
