Abstract:
The possibility of journalists being exposed to physical, psychological and informational risks has resulted in multiple research efforts to understand the nature of these risks, in preparation for providing recommendations to reduce the risk to which journalists are exposed as a result of practicing the profession. The research problem can be formulated as follows: Given the growing risks in the journalistic work environment, the lack of studies that dealt with this topic, and the importance of providing accurate data that contribute to professional safety with all its requirements for journalists; this topic is worthy of study and research in order to answer the following main question: What is the level of awareness of journalists about the standards of occupational safety and digital security, and the extent of their application in their knowledge? The aim of the research is to measure the extent of journalists’ awareness of occupational safety and digital security standards and their application to them. The research belongs to descriptive studies and relied on the survey method and questionnaire tool in data collection, which were applied to 100 Egyptian journalists. The research concluded with a set of results, the most important of which are: With the increasing reliance on modern technology, the interest in data protection has increased. The results revealed that most journalists were exposed to forms of electronic bullying such as deception, masquerading and direct insult, and about the procedures followed when exposed to cybercrime, such as banning, informing the application management, communicating with press institutions, ignoring sometimes, and few of them interested in taking measures legal. The results of the study showed that the most problems that journalists face, especially when covering dangerous places, are physical abuse, conflict with state policies and threats, and sometimes it may even lead to kidnapping and assassination. The results revealed that 58 respondents are interested in developing a plan for occupational safety before covering places dangerous. Digital security problems are not only limited to journalists themselves, but news websites themselves are exposed to hacking with the aim of publishing fake photos and news, disrupting them, destroying their press archives, hacking e-mails, and disrupting the site from working.
